Questions? We've got you!

We are often asked about Came House and how weddings are run at our venue so we hope this collection of answers will help you. If your question still isn’t answered then please contact us and we will be very happy to help.

General Questions

Does Came House have a license for civil ceremonies?

Yes, it does. The Conservatory / Orangery is the most popular location within The House for ceremonies with its stunning domed roof (licensed for 120). However, there are other rooms in The House which are licensed including The Morning Room (opening up on to The Domed Conservatory and offering a further 45 guests making 165 in total), The Drawing Room (95 guests), The Saloon (75 guests) and The Entrance Vestibule. For an outdoor alternative, we offer ceremonies on the lawns and terrace to the rear of the House which are beautiful. With the change in the law in 2022 you can now marry wherever you wish, within the grounds of a licensed venue, so chat to us about your ideas – we are really happy to make it happen for you!

Can we get married elsewhere and then have our reception at Came?

Can we get married elsewhere and have our reception at Came?

Of course. There are plenty of local churches and we can pass contact details across to you if you are looking for a religious ceremony to take place at a church nearby. Please let us know and we will provide you with the list we have.

Can we use the St Peters Church in the grounds of the Came Estate for a ceremony?

Yes, of course. There is a small donation of £500 payable to the CCT (Churches Conservation Trust) but you are very welcome to use St. Peter’s Church which is set within the grounds of The House – and is just a short stroll away. The Church is no longer ordained so legal ceremonies / marriages are not possible, but couples having a civil ceremony at The House may choose to have a religious blessing afterwards at this beautiful church. It may also suit couples who have previously married before their wedding day at Came House – perhaps abroad and then wishing to celebrate their day with family and friends and wish to include a ceremony of some description at Came House. We recommend the capacity in the Chapel is a maximum of 90 – less if you wish to be more roomy!

Can you hold events other than weddings?

Yes, we can host musical performances, game shooting parties, birthday parties, anniversary celebrations, family weekend gatherings in the countryside and much more. Do get in touch to discuss your specific event requirements.

When can we view Came House?

We mostly offer private tours at Came – on a pre-arranged appointment basis. Generally, there is good flexibility for viewings during the week / during the daytime. Weekend viewings tend to be a little tricky during our main wedding season but may be possible so do get in touch ASAP as we do tend to find our weekend viewing appointments get booked early. Please also bear in mind if you are visiting out of season that the grounds may not look as beautiful or as “wedding ready” as they will during the wedding season and when not hosting weddings, Came is used as a private home. We do have to book viewings around other events that are taking place so let us know your availability and we will do our best to accommodate you wherever we can. Please bear in mind when travelling to Came for a viewing that its best to view in daylight hours. We occasionally host an Open Day where the House and grounds are dressed for a wedding – please enquire. We would be delighted to welcome you.

Travel, Accommodation & Accessibility

Is Came House child friendly?

Yes, children will love exploring the grounds. If you choose to include children as part of your wedding weekend – they are very welcome. If you have a large number of children, we can put you in contact with childrens’ entertainers or local creche companies /nannies /babysitters to ensure the little ones don’t get bored and the adults can have a fun, relaxing time. The Garden House accommodation (which adjoins / is immediately next to the main House) has a full kitchen and a small snug / play area which is suitable for young children plus a small terrace garden and can suit families staying for the wedding very well. We have great contacts to make sure children feel welcome yet they are looked after at all those important moments so that the parents can relax and enjoy. We have travel cots, air beds for older children and bed barriers so that parents don't feel the need to bring everything with them.

Can I bring my dog?

The owners of The House are dog owners themselves and in principle will permit one well behaved dog attending your wedding weekend. To ensure that your wedding weekend runs smoothly, and that there are no issues with your four-legged friend being part of your special day, there are some simple 'house rules' to be observed so please do get in touch with a little more information about your requirements and we will certainly look into that for you. Wherever we can we will do our best to accommodate your treasured pooch being a special part of your day. Please note that your pooch will need to sleep in the Garden House – not the main House and we do ask that only one well behaved dog per wedding party is brought to Came. If you have other requirements please do get in touch to discuss and we will try our best to accommodate.

Can you suggest additional accommodation in the local area?

Certainly – we have a list of recommended hotels / B&Bs / cottage rentals from the budget friendly to luxury accommodation, all within a close distance to Came House on our website. We suggest you look to book accommodation no later than 6 months prior to your wedding date as local accommodation can get booked up early – especially during the holidays. If you or your guests experience any difficulties with accommodation please do get in touch and our team will do their best to help.

Where can our guests park?

There is plenty of parking in the paddock at the front of The House for guests which allows the driveway to be kept clear for wedding cars and photographs. Came House staff are on hand to greet your guests on arrival and suggest that guests wearing heels are dropped off on the gravel driveway. Whomever is driving can then drive to the paddock, park their car and then make their way back to the House. The ground is good and firm for parking and lit at night.

Vehicles can be left from Friday through to Sunday (at the owners risk) and collected when required. There is no restriction on this.

Should our guests pre-book taxis for the end of the evening?

We would definitely encourage this to save any waiting times at the end of the night. There are four main taxi companies in the area:-

Damos 01305 250222

Bobs Cars 01305 269500

A Line Taxis 01305 264747

Dorchester Taxis 01305 251097

There is always a Wedding Manager on site throughout the wedding until the end of the night who can assist guests who need assistance with onward travel plans.

Can you accommodate wheelchairs users?

Yes, of course - we can help with this! There are some steps up to the House, but wheelchair users can be driven around to the back of the House and enter via the Conservatory / Orangery double doors for the ceremony. We have one WC on ground floor level too which is large enough to take a wheelchair / frame. All event spaces are on the ground floor of the House though the bedrooms are on the first floor with no lift access, so unfortunately we are not able to accommodate wheelchair users overnight but we can assist with locating suitable accommodation nearby. Please speak with us if you have a guest attending a wedding in a wheelchair so that we are fully informed in advance and we would usually speak with the guest to discuss the arrangements. A chaperone would be required.

Planning & Next Steps

Can we have live music and until what time?

Yes, you can have live music. There are no formal sound limitations in place for the receptions held in our marquee although we do ask bands and DJs to perform at what is considered to be a reasonable level. All music should finish at midnight.

Can we bring our own drinks?

Yes indeed you can. Came House is very unique in this respect and we do not charge corkage if you would like to supply your own champagne / prosecco or other choice of drinks for your post ceremony drinks reception and then your choice of wine for the wedding breakfast and bubbles for your toast. From the end of the wedding breakfast, until the end of your wedding or event our in-house bar will run the evening. Our Wedding Managers will send you full details of the arrangements and can discuss any bespoke and specific arrangements which you may have.

Who manages drinks in the evening?

Once your guests move through from the wedding breakfast to the Evening Reception usually from 7pm (or earlier if requested) our in-house bar will run the evening for you. There are many options available including open or cash bar or an unlimited pre-paid option. We can even arrange for a mixologist or a flair cocktail bar tender if you want to impress your guests!

Are tables and chairs included in the venue hire fee?

If you book your civil ceremony to take place at Came House, the cost of chairs is covered in the ceremony fee. A value of £4 per chair inc VAT (up to a maximum of 120 chairs) and a delivery charge of up to £50 will be included. Our Wedding Managers will ask you about your choice of chairs following your booking with us.

If you plan to choose a more expensive chair option the additional cost will need to be covered by you. If you have a church wedding or ceremony elsewhere, the charge for chairs will need to be covered by yourself but we can of course, help you book and arrange these. The costs of dining tables, either round or long are included in the venue hire fee, provided that they are the style of tables which require cloths to cover them (you will need to hire in your choice of linen table cloths via your caterer or stylist or our Wedding Manager can also help). If you require bare wooden tables please enquire and we can hire these in for you however these will incur an additional cost which will be added to your final invoice.

Can we have fireworks or Chinese lanterns?

Chinese lanterns are not permitted at any location within the Came House estate. Fireworks may be possible at certain times of the year subject to various permissions being sought and a small additional charge for us to arrange to re-house animals for the night of your wedding to ensure that the animals on the Estate are looked after. There is only one permitted fireworks company at Came House. Please enquire for further details to discuss if it might be possible for your wedding date before making any firm arrangements or bookings / commitments with suppliers as permissions cannot be guaranteed.

I want to book, how do I do it?

Firstly, you will receive our pricing information and then we can arrange a viewing for you to see Came House. If you confirm you would like to go ahead, we can place your chosen date on hold temporarily for one week without deposit or obligation. You then need to check availability with the Registrars to confirm they have a Registrar available to conduct your ceremony with us (or contact the Church directly for your choice of religious ceremony). If you wish to use St Peters Church in the grounds of Came please liaise with your Wedding Manager to check availability. We can put you in touch.

Once you have booked your Registrar, let us know and we will send you a copy of our booking form which will need to be completed and returned to us by email, together with a deposit equal to 25% of your total venue hire charge, which needs to be paid by bank transfer only. Our bank details can be found on the bottom of the booking form. Once we have received both your booking form and your deposit, we will confirm your booking via email and will send you confirmation of booking including a payment receipt for your records. Our terms and conditions of booking set out all other booking conditions including the payment schedule. Unfortunately dates cannot be held after 7 days of being held without deposit. Your deposit is entirely non refundable once paid. A booking is not secure until your deposit has been paid and your signed Booking Form has been received. The balance of your venue rental is then payable in two further instalments – 50% at the six month to go point and the remainder two months prior.

Can you help us plan our whole wedding?

Yes, we can. Your booking with Came House includes having a Wedding Planner from Bellissimo Wedding to help you as our Venue Managers and Wedding Co-ordinators from the time you book until your wedding day. This includes a Planner being here at the House the day before your wedding day for a handover of the venue and to assist you with some set up the day before if you require it. It also includes the services on your wedding day from two hours prior to your guest arrival until the end of the wedding day to ensure that the whole day is managed well, and everything goes smoothly for yourselves and for the owner of the House.

Your assigned Wedding Manager will also be on hand to help you in the lead up to your wedding, right from the initial quote and booking to bringing the plans together and helping you book the perfect suppliers.

If you would like additional help in planning your wedding please get in touch. For example – if you would like Bellissimo to help with extended supplier research and recommendations beyond those relating to the venue, help with your ceremony plans, help with sending out invitations and collating RSVPs, advice and help with budgeting and producing time schedules for planning as well as anything else not directly connected to the venue then please contact Bellissimo for a quotation for additional services.

If you book full Bellissimo services in conjunction with booking Came House, you would benefit from a reduced rate for our full and partial plan services. However, Bellissimo can help with as much or as little as you wish, and we will charge our fees accordingly so please get in touch to discuss your wedding and Bellissimo will be able to help.
