A House Built for Parties

All of the formal rooms are licensed for civil ceremonies, the largest being the unique Domed Conservatory / Orangery, for up to 120 guests (with the adjoining Morning Room licensed for a further 45 and opening onto The Domed Conservatory we can offer space to seat 165 guests in total for larger weddings for a civil marriage) which was designed by the Architect Charles Fowler whose other impressive designs include Covent Garden Market and Syon House no less.

There are several outdoor options too – with the change in the law in April 2022 you can now host your legal marriage anywhere within our grounds – the most popular outdoor choice being on our rear Terrace with a beatiful view of the rear facade of the House.

The 15th Century Chapel, just a short stroll away, is available for blessings and there is a plethora of local churches for religious ceremonies.

The extensive formal gardens provide a wonderful location for summer drinks receptions and the Saloon, Morning Room and Conservatory interconnect with the garden terrace to bring the outside in

The Drawing Room, with its white and gold plasterwork, makes an elegant setting for a formal Friday rehearsal supper.  This stunning room also becomes a glorious if you needed to host an indoor drinks reception on the wedding day and your Sunday morning post wedding breakfast is also served in here. Smaller, more intimate wedding breakfast celebrations can be hosted in this room.

For the more extensive guests list you will have use of our stunning new luxury sailcloth marquee which is a semi- permanent feature from Spring to Autumn each year hosting up to x 180 guests seated for the wedding breakfast (round or long tables) and your evening party.

Fall into bed in our stunning Master / Bridal  Suite. Family and friends can stay in the main House, The Garden House and The Courtyard House just next door from Friday to Sunday.  Depart on Sunday after a leisurely House breakfast.

One of the great benefits at Came House is that you are able to provide your own drinks for the drinks reception after your ceremony and during the wedding breakfast (wine and toast drinks) with absolutely no corkage charges. Your caterers will be required to serve these drinks and should be able to arrange for glass hire for you. Bottle disposal is supplied for you at the House.

For the evening reception, a full evening bar service (fully licensed) is provided by Came House which is to be set up and used after 7:00pm or at the end of the wedding breakfast (whichever is the earlier). This is with glass service, fully staffed and a wide selection of drinks.

The bar takes card payments only. This can be operated in three ways. Firstly as a cash bar (where your guests buy their drinks) or an open bar (free to your guests with the tab met by the couple at the end – restrictions and limits can be put in place if desired) or a pre-paid unlimited option based on guest numbers and hours of service. Please enquire for further details.

You can talk with us directly about all the bar options – we have something to suit everyone. You can add in second bars for mixologists, flair bar tenders etc as per your requirements.

Local Churches

Blessings at St Peter’s Came

If you live too far afield, or are too time pressed to establish a ‘qualifying connection’ with a local church, then a Blessing at St Peter’s makes the perfect alternative. Whether you prefer to have your legal ceremony at Came House, or elsewhere, what could be more dreamy than a church ceremony followed by a short stroll to your reception?

St Peter’s, Came is the quintessential country squire’s church, dating from the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. The Revd William Barnes (1801-86), esteemed Dorset dialect poet and friend to Thomas Hardy, was rector here and is buried in the churchyard.

The use of St Peters Church is not included in the rates quoted above. A fee of £500 payable to the Church Conservation Trust (CCT) is kindly requested to hold your ceremony in the Chapel to help preserve and maintain this beautiful building.

Please enquire for details
